RRAW: Critique

Artist: Tom French
Title: Allusions
Year: 2012
Media: Black and White Acrylic

The skull in the artists acrylic paintings are actually made up a couple of lovers, with the way both people are painted it creates a depth of field effect which helps the painting to create a optical illusion of a skull at first sight, so people looking at this art piece would have to look twice to actually see that there are actually people.

I actually find it quiet interesting how you have to look at the painting more than once to realize there is more to the painting than just a skull, but also how instead of a group of people it in fact a couple within a skull giving a dark side to the romance between the two people.

This art piece it self reminds me a lot like death and love blended together, which makes me question this painting, whether it is a death of a past relationship or lover? This also creates a illusion to your conscious and unconscious mind, which can be both beautiful and disturbing.
